Folks that live in Kansas seem to love it. One person, surrounded by fireflies as she walked her dogs one starry evening, told me “living in Kansas is a well-kept secret– don’t tell anyone.”
Mrs. Bales lost an eye in the storm and it was several weeks before it was found. Her son, C.R. Bales, was one day walking in the wheat field north of the Bales’ house and he accidentally stumbled on it. As he was walking he happened to look down at his feet and there was that eye staring up at him. He picked it up and found the glass was as good as ever, so he gave it to his mother and now she can see as well as ever.
Quotation from C.E. Williams (as quoted by Professor Tom Averill of the Washburn University Center for Kansas Studies)

what is it that’s so rib-tickling about the deadpan of country folk? the same low-key reaction in the city seems jaded. i have a cousin who has a glass eye. a piece of metal he was grinding broke off and went into his eye. he’s a big fan of safety glasses now.
i’m a bit of a hick at heart. i suspect i’d love Kansas.
Love it Sera. You have Kansas, we have Saskatchewan (say it out loud for most fun).
Great composition, love it! I heard stories about Kansas
A new one for me about Kansas!
hello my little pikachu… ok i disabled the check box plugin…. this comic is funny, reminds me of ‘my cousin vinny’ …. ‘oh yeah, you BLEND’
What a great little story. And I love the photo of Hope, Kansas. Did you take it?
Some of us prefer living in cities. The rest of us live in hope.
You’re not in Kansas anymore!
I lived in Nebraska before, as a kid. It’s just like Kansas. Is it bad to say that I don’t miss it at all?
great house
excellent job
You’re not from here. Obviously. Love it! Love the ripped leggins and specially made Kansas shirt… and you ARE wearing a cross. They must have liked that. Yes?
This made me smile. What a wonderful piece!!!
How cool, it is like a transition from a fantasy world in the first image to reality in the last image. Or maybe vice-versa.
hello my darling!!! do you know what’s happened to me??? GOOGLE PLUS is what’s happened to me, you would think i was BUSY now hahahaha, but yes i’m ok for the moment, have food and iced tea anyway… are you on google plus? tell me how i can find you…
This made me smile, too, Sera.
‘She’ didn’t say “We’re not in Kansas anymore” for nothing. HA! It’s one of those states I forget about, especially since we almost never hear something about it. Hmmm. With eyeball stories like that, as well as Oz, no wonder.
You sure do know how to tell it like it is, Woman. I love it.
Eye see
Through a glass darkly
The picture of the church is really lovely Sera…so much peace and wonderful tranquility!
wow.. they sure are a content bunch if they’re satisfied with living there..
that last building looks so drab..
your narration scene is great and it’s attractive …
well done !
Your interesting picture/post reminded me of early years on the stage dancing around to the lyrics of EVERYTHING’S UP TO DATE IN KANSAS CITY.
I went to Kansas City on a Friday
By Saturday I learned a thing or two
But up ’till then I didn’t have an idea
Of what the mod’rn world was comin’ to.
I counted twenty gas buggies goin’ by theirselves
Almost every time I took a walk
An’ then I put my ear to a bell telephone
An’ a strange woman started into talk.
What next! What next?
Everything’s up to date in Kansas City
They’ve gone about as fer as they can go
They got a big theatre they call a burleque
For fifty cents you could see a dandy show!
One of the gals is fat and pink and pretty
As round above as she was round below
I could swear that she was padded from her shoulder to her heel
But then she started dancin’ and her dancin’ made me feel
That every single thing she had was absolutely real!
She went about as fer as she could go
Yes, Sir! She went about as fer as she could go!
EVERYTHING’S UP TO DATE IN KANSAS CITY
From the stage show “Oklahoma”
(Richard Rodgers / Oscar Hammerstein II)
Will Parker & Chorus
I am boring, `cause I repeat myself:
…I might take a train, I might take a plane
if I have to walk, I do it all the same
going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come
there are all these pretty girls there
and I`m gonna get me one
(something like that)
I tried to post last night, but I don’t think it went through.

How are you? How is your summer?
I like a lot your stories, this is very suggestive!
You were in Kansas and you didn’t come see me!?!? Well, I’m in Kansas City, Missouri, but still, if you’re ever near here, hit me up! Seriously.
I’ve returned to the world of blogging – hope you post something again soon & that all is well in your world.
What’s up in your world? I am missing your posts.
so….. um…… did you come BACK from Kansas? should we send out a search party?
Hey Sera, If you’re out there and offer any connection to your art, your intelligence, your wit…count me in.
Did that big wind come and carry you off after all? I hope you’re comfortable in Oz now that the riffraff are gone.
I once spent a month in jail for trying to smuggle about a hundred pounds of weed back into Arkansas, after a trip to Kansas to chop it off the side of the road, where it grows wild. Really. Did back in ’71 anyways. Leftover rope-weed from the Civil War, I heard. Almost no thc! Why’d they lock me up for that?!
Love the comic, and the eyeball story.
Sera. Sera? . . . ?
Does anyone know where Sera went? She’s disappeared from SL!
Anything can happen. People go different ways. You gotta do what you gotta do.
Pithy stuff, huh? None of it changes the fact that we NEED YOU HERE SERA!!! SERAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
