The Japanese government conceded yesterday that they can’t contain the radiation at Fukushima Dai-Ichi’s damaged nuclear reactors. The likely solution will be to entomb the reactors with sand and concrete. Water around the reactors is currently emitting a deadly 1,000 millisieverts of radiation per hour. Small levels of radiation have been observed in milk as far away as California.
The ongoing health impacts of Chernobyl has had a devastating effect on survivors: damaging immune and endocrine systems, leading to accelerated aging, cardiovascular and blood illnesses, psychological illnesses, chromosomal aberrations and an increase in foetal deformations.
Quotation from Greenpeace, Chernobyl death toll grossly underestimated.
They have concluded between themselves that it is inevitable some of them may die within weeks or months. They know it is impossible for them not to have been exposed to lethal doses of radiation.
Quotation from the mother of a 32-year-old worker at Fukushima Dai-Ichi, according to Fox News.

Smart girl and you know the worst is we expect fake bad things on April first, and yet all the rotten things are everyday…Hang in girl
It’s strange, I remember Chernobyl even though I was just 3 or 4 years old at the time.
I feel terrible for the plant workers who tried to fix it. How much radiation have they been exposed to!
The news about Fukushima continues to worsen for all of us – man, fish, and beast. Some of us even have fluorescent green hair.
I loved this line from Club Orlov: If your lucrative murder-for-hire business suddenly runs afoul of a few silly laws (even though it has so far killed many fewer people than planes, trains or automobiles) that doesn’t mean that you should keep killing people until you find another source of income.
i don’t know what to say on this subject, it’s so sad, too bad einstein wasn’t successful in hiding his research from the world, but even if he was there’s always the stupid collective unconscious isn’t there?
cats can stalk us, but we can’t stalk them, or other people, pets and people are taboo…. thems the rules sis…
The Japan disaster has been..and continues to be one of the saddest stories in a long time. We can’t even begin to know the long term and global effects. Not yet.
I got to meet and spend a lot of time with some sweet young girls from Sendai. My heart aches for them. We have heard nothing yet about their fate.
This whole situation is a nightmare !
If you think the milk is bad don’t try the hamburgers :0
… and chernobyl is still burning…. 20 years later. And ?David? Monbiot who wrote ‘Heat: How to Keep the Planet from Burning’ goes on international radio to say he now thinks nuclear power is moving up the list of ‘green’ energy sources. it’s a wiggly and very scary world out there
I’m glad you liked my photo ! If you want to use it, be my guest !
just goes to show ya, no matter how small it might be, you could screw up your child for life, as a matter of fact, it’s inevitable lolol oooh bad to laugh at that, sorry i have been doing laughter yoga exercises and right now, everything is funny lol
Yes, I remember that period. It’s strange when that happens that can not be controlled, especially because it’s our life at stake. Great work and very interesting theme! Best regards, Andrei.
Building a nuclear facility along a recognized earthquake fault line was never a good idea. Apart from the tragic loss of life and effect on its citizens and those neighbouring countries the result is yet another catastrophic blow to the economy.
In a nation reliant on seafood and which exports that produce overseas the effects are aleady evident- the price for some fish like inada, or young yellowtail have fallen more than 50%. .
Best wishes
Burn more coal. Eat more chicken. It’s ok to eat irradiated food as long as you don’t swallow. Maybe those people wearing aluminum foil hats knew what they were doing.
I feel horrible for the people of Japan. Their attitudes are incredible–calm in the wake of so much turmoil. That they were hit again with a quake and aftershocks is just mind-numbing. One feels so lost in terms of being able to put some controls in place, when the ocean shelf keeps shifting. It’s overwhelming.
hey sera, great to see you blogging again xx
Hi Sweetie!! the girl with bette davis eyes isn’t my niece, she’s cute too tho lol i found her amusing in her little goth chick outfit
how are you??
I took pictures of cows yesterday. Really, truly. I did. Love the mooers.
animals can talk, and somewhere inside of us we hear, and they can see when your dinner is haunted
thanks for visiting sister, glad you’re getting back into the swing of things!
Sigh. I wonder what my grandson will know about this 10-15 years from now!?!
Grief and anger – that is all I feel these days. Despite the beauty of the nature which does surround me, where the three dimensional fades to mere flat imagery. It is sad that humans are more stupid than mice despite all superior intellectual capacities.
The nuclear question has to be solved, otherwise we are doomed. It is not only the accidents, it is the problem of the waist of nuclear plants which will haunt us for thousands and thousands of years. Hardly anybody talks about that. I am basically fed up with society, get a boat and sail the seven seas as a pirate. But of course that is a useless romantic notion. I am not sure what the answer is, but I know that we are getting lots of wake up calls these days. OK, lets wake up!
PS – nice crafted toon!
it’s quite sad what happened there.. hope they contain it sooner..
yes! it was called ‘planes trains and automobiles’ lol one of my faves, it was steve martin, no chevy chase, they scream and jump out of bed and start talking in low voices about football lolol good to see you my friend
