I paid my car off in April. Do you know how nice it is not to have car payments? So the Universe blessed my good fortune by hurling a truck at me this week and destroying my little, completely-paid-for, all-mine car. My insurance company gave me a check and said I’m supposed to replace my Honda with a comparable one. The “catch” is nobody takes care of their cars as well as I do. There isn’t a Honda that is “just like mine” for sale anywhere. I bought a newer one that cost me an additional ten thousand dollars. Alas, I’m making car payments again. Thank you Universe– I’m at least blessed that nobody was injured in the wreck.
I hope life isn’t a big joke, because I don’t get it.

Bart, with $10,000, we’d be millionaires! We could buy all kinds of useful things like… love!
Quotation from Homer Simpson

oh yes, thank God you weren’t hurt!! i would pay 10 grand to have not been hurt in car accidents i was in…. when did this happen? do you want that doggy to like your booboos?
i kept an eye on him hahaha, you’re funny even AFTER being totalled by a truck!!
i owe i owe it’s off to work i go…. well i’m glad you like your new car, would have been sucky to pay an extra 10 grand for one you didn’t like
oh no… bad luck… an EXTRA $10,000. Hope it’s a REALLY nice car
That’s a ‘wheel’
bad deal
Enough to drive you mental
but at least it was only money and metal.
Cars are terrible, money-sucking demons. It must have been better to have a horse. At least if a horse was totaled, one could eat it.
P.S. Glad you’re not hurt.
I’m glad you’re okay. I hope you’re at least enjoying your newer model.
I like to believe that for everything there is a reason..but in this particular case – I’m not sure what that reason might be. Sorry to hear about your week..and your wreck! Life can be so unfair!!!
The part I’m concerned about with the wreck is that it appears to have caused the fingers of your right hand to go straight through your left hand. That’s gotta hurt, plus making it hard to change clothes. Might wanna see a surgeon about that.
It was probably a truck hired by the bank to make sure to take out another loan.
Just bad luck. But I’m glad you’re ok.
thank you sister, i likey take ‘em dog pictures
and yes yes summer is great for dogs!! my dog prolly just had the best summer of his life, my hubby hanging out with the old guy and his dog across the street, they go on hour and a half long walks lol leaving me allllll alone lol
I sort of know how you feel, I had a nice 2002 Dodge Intrepid that got rammed by a BMW from behind, only I ended way upside down with the check I was given by the insurance company.
yes i think they are missing the point if they ARE touching the ball, coz my bro said it was great for that reason, and Sasha was bringing back the ball to their feet, or they might have to walk a bit to scoop up the all, he said something about it was better for throwing the ball too, but i can’t remember what he said,, seems like a pretty silly invention to me
It’s a good thing you weren’t hurt !
I hope Luck will be on your side the next time you need it !
Thank goodness you’re okay is the first thing I’ll say. The second is that I can commiserate with you in losing your Honda – sometimes a car is our closest friend.
Yikes! I totally pardon your French, even though I rarely pardon French people. However, I except you to swear in French next time, merde and putain. Like a real Parisian.
This sucks.
That;s a drag, but thanks for stimulating the economy!
If I were near you, first thing is to look after you till you get well! God bless you! But life repeats all along as the Universe does! So be ready to welcome new life era! However, next driving should be more prudent! Nice to see you are making car payments again! Good choice! ^_^
When bad things happen to good people…not even the Universe whispers the reason why! BUT, I do like that you had a Honda (my car of choice), that it was paid off, that you were not hurt, and that you got a new model for “only” $10K. How old was your wrecked car, I wonder? Believe it or not, this actually happened to me with the Honda I had after my divorce. Totalled by a foreigner who didn’t know an important driving rule when turning left across a multi-laned highway. No one was hurt then, either, but I got a new car and payments. I would have been happier with an old car without payments. But you never know. That’s the thing. You never know. To make a comic out of it is what makes you who you are, Sera: brilliant! Astrid and I were just talking this morning about who you are and how you’re on our list of top-10 people to ever meet one day. Not that that’s worth $10K but…you really are an inspiration. Keep on keeping on!
You are well and safe!! thats a blessing!!
I have a very old car.. named Betty:) does the job!!:)
Very creative, I guess there are lots of people who have been in the same situation.
Oi! (heart palpitations) I’m glad one of you escaped unscathed (mostly), and, it may seem ruthless to say it – i’m especially glad that the survivor was you….. but i grieve for your lovely little car. i get very attached to my vehicles (though i don’t care for them as well as you do) my present vehicular flame is Rudi, the red-nosed (Ford) Ranger, who’s very beat up and beginning to rust…. has some neurological and physiological problems and occasionally the accelerator sticks. i should probably just put her out of her misery, but i don’t believe in euthanasia, and i think she still has some quality of life. And she doesn’t seem to mind the mess the puppy makes of her. i think she might even have got fond of him.
Sera, thank God you’re ok, and that the only bruise you have is the one to your pocket. That sucks.
Why does life always throw these wrenches in our plans? The universe can be awfully cruel sometimes.
Shit! Sorry about that Seraphine. Shop carefully and maybe you’ll find a suitable replacement. So glad you weren’t physically hurt. Be sure to watch for signs of whiplash though… takes weeks sometimes.
ahhahah
welcome to real life….it is just like that…
dang! i guess s*&t happens randomly.. sorry to hear about that.. at least you got an excuse to get a new car..? lol..
Before reading, I saw that fabulous photo and thought you’d figured out a way to do some great graphic conglomeration…NOT!
I see that is your poor car, totaled !!
Oh, that is the pits ! You deserve a big “poor baby.” But boy, do you know how to turn adversity into art… This is a gorgeous post combining a smashing photo (teehee) and a gorgeous red-headed Sera cartoon !. So sorry for your troubles, but I LOVE what you made of them !!
I really sumpathise with you! The loss of your car which you loved, paid off and weren’t ready to part with. I am sorry to hear you had to take a new loan, i remember the joy of a paid off car! But all in all in the larger scheme we are really really glad it was only the car which got totaled, and it did its job and protected you! Loved you back I guess!
Glad you are OK, but what the heck? Are you burning off some bad Karma girl?
Yes, you could equally say the universe was kind to you as thankfully only your car was hurt – is that a hybrid Honda. Best wishes
is mother trucker french for ‘your ex employer’? i’ll try putting the glasses on the dog one of these times if hubby will let me, if he gets mad, i’ll blame you, coz he likes you
Sh…..that sucks big time…like my laptop crashing and killing 20,000 photos…like paying 1200 for repair and now it’s pitifully running…I hate your life it sucks so I embrace you and send you magic, real magic, the kind I can never f….ng get xxxx
As you know, I’ve recently been there, done that. Sucks. Glad you weren’t hurt.
I just read your last comment on my blog.
Hush it. Having an agent only means I’ve fooled someone into thinking I have talent. We have yet to snag an editor.
If you’re serious about writing/publishing, you should check out http://www.agentquery.com. Lots have great information there. Lists agents and what works they take on and how to submit to them.
Carpe diem, sister. Life is short.
You know…sometimes life really bites big time. I’m sorry to hear about your car, and yeah, the chances of finding one “just like yours” is probably very slim, but hey, you may find something you didn’t excpect to (in a positive spin) out there too.
Love your quotes
My dear Sera!
The same thing used to happen to me! I am the older sister of 3 and I started working before my sisters, so of course I always used to buy more…and they always wanted to stole my clothes or even borrow. But, when I decided to lend my loved clothes, it always came back to me almost destroyed. They didn’t give all the care I do to clothes. So, we were always fighting about it. I even used to lock my closet for no bad surprises. Now, thanks God we don’t live together anymore…but, apart from this, they were great sisters…
Love,
Kira
Lol, life does have a sick sense of humor. I love it. It makes things less boring. Just look at it this way, with more disposable income you would have bought something you really didn’t need and then you would have realized it later and been mad at yourself for it so really it was a favor keeping you from that little episode right? That’s what i like to think when i feel life has it out for me. Doesn’t always work but hey what can you do.
Dear Seraphine, this is just terrible loosing ‘your dear friend’ in a car accident, I know you should be thankful nobody got hurt, but the after-match is always a lost one, you end up with payments again for something you did not do, life is not fair.
All things happen for a reason even if we don’t know what those reasons are, I hope you new car will become your ‘best car’ and that you will give it time to become friends with you again.
Ginnie and I, we own a very small bright green car, I even talk to it, I wash it and before we went to France I put wax from a tin on it, and polished it until it shined and smiled to me.
I know a car is a thing, but it takes us from point A to B and it brings us back to point A………… we are thankful for it.
Have a good weekend and I am sure you will forget overtime what happened, I know, I have been in a same accident.
Sera: Same thing happened years ago to me. My Honda Accord was paid off with 190,000 miles on it…perfect mechanical condition. A lady was in my blind spot when I was changing lanes. She hit me like a bumper car and seemed nervous when we were exchanging insurance info stating: “I’m not supposed to be in this part of town”. She then sued my insurance company stating she was hurt. I begged them not to pay her a cent. They caved in,- like the left side of my car (which my insurance company totaled). At least you are in a good car that is reliable. Glad you were not hurt!!!!
it’s been long time
but u r still so active & creative
well i guess seraphine must encore face the real world…
