This is the season of Naked Lady lilies in northern California. They grow the flower stem first- the leaves only come later after the flower has bloomed.
“The pervasive theme is rebellion.” Laurel Thatcher Ulrich begins her new book, “Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History,” struggling to explain — understand — the appeal of an aside she made in the spring 1976 issue of an academic journal, a comment that has become a popular slogan printed on T-shirts and coffee mugs and bumper stickers, usually without her permission and often without attribution.
Quotation from Kathryn Harrison, We’re No Angels, Sunday Book Review (The New York Times) Much of what is characterized as female “misbehavior” is a matter of voice — of a woman insisting she be heard, paid not only attention, but also the respect due a being as fully human and necessary as a man.

what about mother theresa, she was well behaved, lots of saints were lol and they made history, tho even the Christian ones weren’t always well behaved, take joan of arc and her penchant for chopping up english men lol aaah well, you know, a woman with a cause and all that, no actually, never heard that saying…. hmmm
thanks about the gratitude one, that was a strange nothing picture
but i like strange nothing pictures… coco can’t run off and join the circus anymore
we had this friend over the other day who hasn’t been here in a while and he’s absent mindedly petting the dog when suddenly his hand moves back in shock and he says ‘WTF????? DIFFERENT DOG!!!’
i think it’s a not so great definition of creation too, coz then that would mean i’m creative and i’m not, if i was i would be a painter, not a photographer… but i really like the way the typed words were placed on the texture
The scent of a naked lady follows my half-away dreams. The lilies bloom, and the odor of flowers hunt my daily chores. Life is not what it seems when you are embedded in natural perfume, Even sweat counts, eventually.
Very much to the point. We are all equal, but sadly some are more equal than others.
I’m well behaved, and polite and corteous, I’m sorry
Who the hell wants a well-behaved woman. How boring would that be?
Lol, sorry Lorraine, posted before i read anyone’s posts
I love you! Barefoot or not.
You’re comments on my blog are always some of my favorite. And this week’s picture of pink flowers called Naked Ladies? Awesome. =)
“If it’s a man, it’s authoritative. If it’s a woman, it’s caustic.” ~ Barabar Walters
Hmmm… I should be less well-behaved.
That’s a good lesson of the day.
I am slowly getting over my good girl syndrome. Learning the hard way that being well behaved doesn’t always pay off.
Great work as usual!
The older I get, Sera, the faster my traditional, conservative, good-girl manners fly out the window. Astrid is always seeing the imp/devil in me, something I don’t usually let others see. But it’s definitely there…more and more. Sometimes I think we still live in the Middle Ages with all the inequities that still exist. The more things change the more they stay the same. UGH.
yes, it’s the best life, thank you for noticing, darling…. that’s the point isn’t it?
Katharine Hepburn’s brashness was unnerving to many and according to Karen Karbo in her book ‘ How to Hepburn ‘ in an interview with Rex Reed Hepburn once said , apropos her brashness “ I had to ( behave that way ) or they would have had me playing whores or discontented wives who always wonder whether they go to bed with some bore.’
Best wishes
true that, look at lindsay lohan.. lol.. ;D
on a different note, i can’t find anywhere about these flowers being poisonous..?
All naked ladies are poisonous…
The only lesson we can ever teach anyone is not by what we say but by how we behave depending on circumstance.
I love your stories of a woman!
I think that’s so true about women and ‘voice’..and how that has been mistakenly attributed to bad behavior!! Very thoughtful post!!!
A little bit of rebellion is good. That’s the French in me speaking.
Naked ladies do seem to stick in the memory a little more, especially if they have weapons. Some people become serial murderers just to get fame; somehow being locked up for the rest of their lives is less important than the spot in history. So to a serial killer is it quantity or quality? Is the zodiac killer remembered more for the murders or the unbreakable code?
beautiful flowers…and in the middle of no where ..the nature is really amazing…
wow, i like those flowers, very interesting. but you know what, i should be the one tied there. i do everything wrong.
You have this week posted a wonderful series.
Every woman should have a little mystery! ; )
Looove that first panel, the factory/warehouse with the lights on.
And I’m trying but as yet unable to explain that.
