I can’t do it alone. The poor can’t, the rich can’t. What’s needed is universal agreement on basic needs such as education, healthcare, housing, justice, resource management, fairness and human rights. We can no longer afford the hatreds of war, racism, sexism, intolerance and other inequities. It has been 65 years since the formation of the United Nations to promote economic development, social progress and world peace. Nothing of cooperative substance has happened since. Perhaps it is time to move the United Nations from New York City to East Jerusalem, making Jerusalem an international city accessable to all. If we put our minds together, even the most vexxing world problems could be solved.
“Freedom from fear” could be said to sum up the whole philosophy of human rights.
Quotation from Dag Hammarskjold

Sera’s got the whole world in her hands.
The U.N. has accomplished just what the founders intended: To be a platform for corruption, money laundering, and self aggrandizing.
oh i thought you were looking for the tiger/elephant/turtle under your bubly world… i wish my grumpy old man talked that way haha, they gossip, and back bite, and talk about how much they hate the world… esp govt…
Love the comic and lead image today
Excellent quote. Great dress. Slightly worrying cosmology

I’m getting a message that I’m duplicating my comment but my comment isn’t showing when I press submit
Worked that time. The vagaries of the internet I guess.
YOU are a beautiful Soul…once read from a Russian caught in the horror of the Holocaust upon waiting to be ‘interviewed’ by the Gestapo said ‘ You can only be as free as you free your mind of fear’ we should all be free
Most of the rich don’t give a damn because it is not a priority for them. The poor are too overwhelmed.
‘and what does the turtle stand on?’
The last obvious opportunity to change direction was the first oil crisis in the 70′s when supply was cut because of price fixing by OPEC. The signal given pointed toward innovation in cleaner technologies but what happened was a massive reaction against taking responsibility and the election of our first made for television president. Wars of aggression both large and small became the norm in the ensuing decades.
From the Gulf of Mexico disaster to the greed of big banks and corporations, to the homeland security industry, industrial pollution, demonization of of other cultures all the way to the US veto power in the UN security council we’re all left standing helpless on the shore.
‘from there it’s us turtles all the way down.’
Pity humans are so flawed.
I just read an article listing more than 20 statistics demonstrating that the American middle class is shrinking quickly and dramatically. Even if some of these are manufactured just to prove the point, it was still a lot of proof.
I think the turtle is getting smaller… and maybe the elephant is getting larger, and the tiger is getting angrier
Whether it is peace or nation building initiatives sadly enough (like a bright eyed United Nations emerging from the carnage of successive world wars to offer world peace) such ideals become supplanted by individual nations self interest and a lack of trust.
‘Turtles All the Way Down’ – As the old cosmological myth of a flat earth resting on the back of a turtle have make way for enlightenment we still we cling to our old fears which continually bubble to the surface and prevent us trusting in one another to stymie peace initiates. The old myths tell us about something about human nature still true today.
Best wishes
You speak from a good heart, Sera and I agree. But what contaminates such solid ideals is the selfishness of man and those who are hell bent on war even if we want peace. At least it seems this way to me. I asked my 90-year young Aunt when our nation was truly at peace and doing well. She paused and said. “You know, for a very brief period it was 1959. Eisenhower was concluding his presidency and Kennedy was about to enter The White House. There was a feeling of optimism and people seemed happier. Everyone bought large cars and there was pride. But it was brief”. lol!!!
What’s with all the bubbles? Is Encore Seraphine the next bubble? When’s your IPO? I want to cash in on a bubble for once!
Wow, you’re quite a bit more positive than I am. I concluded humanity is pretty much an epic fail and joined the Voluntary Human Extinction project.

self portrait ???????
That picture is awesome; it looks like it started out as a curtain then somebody got really artistic with it.
Nothing holds the earth up; it is at the center of the universe and everything else is there just to test whether Catholics believe what they are told or question it and are going to burn in hell for not believing.
A universal agreement on basic needs. Agreed!
I have a soap box I could climb up on, but won’t. Just know I wish the world made only four dependable cars so that choosing one wouldn’t be so darn difficult and stressful.
Same goes for cereal.
The U.N. never really worked. It served its purpose to some extent but give it a real issue needing sound judgment and cooperation and forget it. I am fairly confident that wars will not cease until the world nearly ends from nuclear fire. That should put an end to most of it for a short time. I am 100% convinced our race is insane with no cure in sight.
I completely, totally, wholeheartedly agree!!! A fabulous post Sera!!!
politics stinks, even at UN…
sure is hard for everybody to come to an agreement.. but what is that?! is that a wedding/prom dress?
i have kneezles alright, you should see them, they look like elephant knees when my legs are straight, *not good*
that’s prolly why bees LIKE their knees, coz they are covered in pollen, all pretty with sweetness, i wonder if elephants like their knees…. there’s 3 steps outside the door of our house, and my old running injuries are starting to act up and i can barely make it up the stairs… again *not good* thank you for the nice break to my blog making, setting up a wordpress blog used to be easy, but now with all the plugins i use, it takes forever!!
As one who studies astrology and natal charts in particular, Seraphine, I often ponder these days what it means that we’re in the Age of Aquarius. This should be the age when the world starts to understand the futility of war and seeks universal “brotherhood.” It’s the age when the Interenet should become “regulated” and kept safe for our children. Will we see any inkling of this in our time? Will the collective consciousness of many who desire peace and justice turn the tide? I have always been an eternal optimist, to the chagrin of others. But I don’t apologize. If WE don’t think we can change the world, one person at a time, why don’t WE blow it up and be done with it??
ooooh i need that drug, there’s no danger of me doing too much haha lol night night sweetie
Hey Sera, I forgot to say how much I LOVE that dress!! It’s a wonderful work of designing!!
Sympathique !
Two words: THANK YOU!
XOXOXOXO
Growing up in Europe, I always felt we had the weight of the world on our shoulders. This is the old continent, where two of the biggest wars and atrocities took place… history is very important here and things that happened hundred years ago are still considered “current”. I find North Americans tend to forget more easily, which can be seen as offensive. Yet, sometimes, you do have to move forward…
Lovely art-work Sera!!
and very important subject with an excellent suggestion to make a change!!
Simply, an GREAT POST!!!!
a GREAT POST!
What an incredible art work, lovely dress, turtle Sera.
what does the turtle stand on? more turtles, of course…. haven’t you read Dr. Seus’ Yurtle the Turtle?
timely post, for me…. with all the trying to save the world, and dealing with employees having meltdowns for most of the week before i FINALLY get a holiday, i find myself sitting with a glass of cool wine on my back step wondering if the world is worth saving…… a cynical moment that i’ll no doubt get over
You’re brilliant.
