Few of us will make any individual mark for mankind to remember. What we can do today is make our lives meaningful in the moment. Future generations will remember none or few of us as individuals; our legacy is the world we leave for our children and their children.
I’m never going to be famous. My name will never be writ large on the roster of Those Who Do Things. I don’t do anything. Not one single thing. I used to bite my nails, but I don’t even do that any more.
Quotation from Dorothy Parker
As if you could kill time without injuring eternity.
Quotation from Henry David Thoreau

Beautiful place, great photograph! Great composition!
If we are not here to make a difference then why are we here at all??? I think to be happy and useful….that will certainly make a difference and mark our presence:) Wonderful post Sera…and as for the image, it is simply lovely!!!
LOL wow talk about opposites ego…cool Love this, we leave our mark whether we want to or not! I know I’ll never forget you!
Lovely picture! Reminds me of where I grew up in Brittany, the coastline is very similar.
I love the first quote, too funny.
Ya, the world we leave our children is our legacy so i feel so privileged to be part of a legacy of greed and mismanagement. That’s assuming of course there is a future to look back on us.
What’s in a name?
Lovely coastal shot
spain is always a good call
Maybe marks are overrated things. Hmmmm. And? Marky Mark wears underwear in public.
You always leave a warm and happy mark on my heart. Love you, Sera.
That is a gorgeous photograph.
I think we all eventually realize that it’s the marks we leave in the hearts of others that are important.. and not much else really counts.
Love the shot at the top, and your quote is so true, I know many dream of being famous, but I dont I dont think the famous are anyhappier or well adjusted than us average joes or janes
A lovely shot, Sera with the gorgeous colours of the foreground leading us to the rocks and water. I personally believe it’s the way that we treat others during our lives, the impact we have on an animal we love or save, a flower we nurture, and the compassion and humanity that we exhibit towards others, LIttle Earth and Mother nature that becomes our legacy.
Great post as always.
Ah, to run with the kittens.
Love in the landscape picture,I just love being outdoors anyways!
I have brought up 2 self assured, happy loving children into adults and a wonderful grandson
that I have a wonderful bond with!..anything else … ! pales into nothing.
main thing is is to know yourself and follow your heart, everything will be alright!
Well told, my friend.

Do we need fame? Maybe seize every day of the life, this is my famous rule
I so agree with your thoughts on ‘marking my mark.’
I have given up on that dream….
but now, I am very clear how important and how powerful it is for the world that we be our true selves and keep at it ’til the end. For me that is a high goal and sometimes a difficult challenge. But it’s MY challenge…I’m the only one in the world with My DNA and, therefore, who else will be me if not me?
You see what tracks you get us running down with your ‘serious’ comics…especially like those of today and yesterday?
Keep on keeping on with your best take on Seraphine. Love it !!!
thanks for the hugs, i was real sad about that baby pug, i fell in love with her while kissing her until my lips were numb…. i have that dorothy parker quote on my myspace page, among others, have the dorothy parker reader around here someplace…
fog…forgot I mean – to tell you how much I luv the photo
Beautiful picture ,Beautiful colors
Running with the bulls is not my style, neither is running with the kittens hehehe. I prefer to touch individuals on a daily basis and reap my rewards along the way. There is no great reward in the end, you have to live here and now. And maybe just maybe somebody will remember you when you are gone. The people I miss most werent famous, or heros, they were just loving.
I work for television behind the screens (I also do film sometimes) …. And I’m happy with my job, I don’t feel like becoming famous at all :p (love the first shot btw, it’s a great view, and your story is great as always
)
A great post on my favorite subject: What adds meaning to our lives. Many things. Living out of Love and not fear. Good Blog Buds who make us think and care like you!
Keep it going!!!
Hi Sera
Its true most of us will not leave that indelible historic mark on the world. But what we are also now realizing is that it is only from the diaries of ordinary folk who wrote unequivocally about the life and times of their era that we gain a true appreciation of our past as opposed to those biased historical accounts recorded by the victors.
Goodness can also come in many different ways and there is plenty of evidence to suggest a good life in service to others is one that is both satisfying and enjoyable to overshadow any desire for fame or fortune.
George Eliot wrote about the character Dorothea that ‘Her finely touched spirit had still its fine issues, though they were not widely visible. Her full nature, like the river of which Cyrus broke the strength, spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. But the effect on her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive; for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistorical acts; and that things are not as ill with you and me as they might have been is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life and rests in unvisited tombs. ‘
Best wishes
Very inspiring.
“God has designed you for a purpose. Whatever it is, know he has chosen you for it, and labor faithfully.” ~Unknown
I don’t care to be famous. All I want is for is the face of God to smile upon me.
Loved your post. Love you!
I love your seacoast picture with the flowers and all; that is really beautiful.
I suppose in a way ‘trying to make a mark’ is the reason many of us blog. My mother told me that if I kept sucking a glass against my mouth it would get stuck there and leave a mark. I guess no matter how hard we try to make a mark, for most of us it will come right out in the wash.
dogs DOOOO recognize dog toys, our poodle Crissy used to get one for Christmas every year, she would impatiently wait while we opened our gifts, knowing she would get her stocking last… anyway, one Christmas we were over at my bro’s and they had a little stuffed teddy bear as on ornament on the bottom of the tree, and Crissy walked up and gently took it off and started chewing on it, she just knew that it was hers
Spain sounds great!! Maybe not a mark on humanity..but good enough!!!
a fellow was in my store today talking about his dog…. the runt of the litter, at only 100 lb. its dad was 280 lb… some monster breed. your dog above must be from the same family…. i don’t think it’s a question of WHETHER we make a difference. we can’t exist on planet earth without having some effect on someone or something. your blog, for instance, provokes thought and conversation on how we perceive and interact with each other, and our world. awareness makes us look more closely at things we may otherwise take for granted. for me it’s about taking responsibility for the things i affect and, as much as is possible, choosing what kind of effect i have.
In reading the previous comments, Seraphine, It’s very clear YOU have left a mark, and I, for one, will remember you.
The only time we have is NOW to do whatever we can to be better, think, do, forgive, love better….trusting that our children will keep what’s worth keeping and throw the rest away. Sigh. It would be so nice if all our mistakes didn’t keep repeating themselves throughout history!
Everything and everyone is dust. No matter how famous we become in our own time, history eventually warps who we really were. So our true character dies anyway.
i know what that doggy does ! *giggles mischievously*
