1) One would expect that 50% of all deaths are women. However, according to the CIA World Factbook, there are 107 men born for every 100 women. Since women live longer, the actual worldwide ratio of men to women is 1.01 to 1. Ergo, more men than women die. 2) A woman dies every minute from pregnancy complications and childbirth, mostly in poor countries. 3) Women never cry over nothing.

Poem by Austin Straus

As some of us know, dear Seraphine, Silence = Death! So let’s let’s just keep saying What??? when it’s in their face and they don’t get it!
I absolutely LOVE today’s photo
Ha Life and Death…you say it better than most. DOWN with the taxes I say! Lovely nude
Boobs two posts in a row. I love it.
While we’re not always ready when push comes to shove (or when pushed or shoved) we very quickly learn to adapt while in freefall or upon landing. It’s either that or remain flat on our faces.
(Why would I ever cry over nothing? What a waste of perfectly good tears!)
This post mystified me.
First this very alive beautiful torso picture with breasts of shape and size of my preference. Then a kind of Freudian touch to the cartoons depicting hollow headless body’s.
And finally a reference to death statistics.
What was going on in your mind when you orchestrated this post?
I very much love your work, but this one left me somewhat dumbfounded, the connection and the meaning from one step to the other.
…maybe my frontal lobes don’t work properly anymore and comprehension is week, and therefore I should service them, perhaps at Jiffy Lube.
women are just strange LOL
You CAN fly.
Hmmm, I wonder if we can get busted if that girl is under 18 and this is in our browser cache. oh, well… great b/w grain on the photo, and an interesting cartoon and story!
As the Late Great Frank Zappa said “Anything over a handful is wasted”
Love the top shot. Oh to be young again…. in body at least…not so sure about mind
Yeah…”What?”
…and then… I just gotta say, outa sheer sensuous lust(brain is sense organ;-) for artistry and wit, even if it ain’t a meal-ticket, puuuh-leeeeeease! don’ give up your comic strippin’?!
Personally, I think you should be syndicated, somethin’ like that. That ain’t about what can or can’t be, just what I like.
I’m so glad I’m a woman…. lol
Seraphine: I did not know about those stats. But of course, I see more men and women working out regularly and getting scheduled medial check ups which is so important. This is a very important post and I’m glad you have shared it!
Having your expectations and views tested every now and then is a good thing. Life would be so boring without it.
It makes me very angry that women die from pregnancy complication and childbirth, because a lot of these deaths occur in developing country where contraception is not widely available. Most women who die of complication during pregnancy are women who either seek abortions under unsafe conditions (once again, because it is not a legal option) or because they are too young to have children, or because the pregnancies are too close. That could be avoided with proper family planing.
I recently read a report on that.
Are the statues at the Justice Department still wearing burquas? The world would be a saner place if women were afforded the health care and education they deserve.
Great image, post and quote…I love them all Sera:)
death stats very close to home. a dear friend died this week. … and i said “what?!”
………… I did send you mail to your Hawaii e-mail address; just so you know………
women are always difficult to follow
poooooor men we are !
bisous bisous
This is awesome – I love the shot, great composition with the hair making it work. And then the images in the comic go perfectly too. I’m not completely sure what the comic means yet, I’ve been staring at it for a while and there are quite a few levels to it.
I need help with this one. I’m not sure of the message. But I know it has integrity and meaning…
Woman don’t die because of complications in pregnancy.
Woman die, because there is no clean water, no security, no assistance.
I have a woman friend who worked on the Western African coast for a year, I understand all her stories. Mostly they are about deprivation, immediate help and so on…
And what you all forget, or blank out in your mind, is that there is still a looming HIV situations that happen to be predominantly in Africa.
It must be terrifying for a woman to give birth, just to know that the little new born is already infected with AIDS.
I don’t know – statistics never thrill me — as real life tales tells them to you!
Sorry Sera, this post was kind of vague and unrefined brew.
Though I must say, I love the picture you created on the top of your header. I captured many nude photographs in my days, so I appreciate if someone else does something beautiful.
GIRL POWER! Love.
I love the Austin Straus poem. And you.
GIRL POWER! Love.
