Actually, I did receive a generous donation (Thanks Sara!). Now all I need is an agent, a patron or a corporate sponsor. Or a sugar daddy cookie.
I stood almost motionless on a box in harvard square, painted white, relinquishing my fate and income to the goodwill and honor of the passers-by. I spent years gradually building up a tolerance to the inbuilt shame that society puts on laying your hat/tipjar on the ground and asking the public to support your art…
Quotation from Amanda Palmer, Dresden Dolls

yeah that’s what you need to do, find a way to take sera to the street, sell gels of your comics, and sit there drawing more so people can watch you and throw money in your hat, i would have donated *cough cough* but i had to borrow 75 cents off my niece to finish my Christmas shopping, totally traumatized the wee thing, it was not like taking candy from a baby, it was like ripping cold hard cash from an 8 year old’s hands that she had been saving to buy her daddy guitar pics for Christmas….
i know, she bought 3 guitar pics, she wanted a box for them so she could wrap them, the guy behind the counter just hoped she wouldn’t start crying lol
I love the Dresden Dolls!
here we go again:
Good Yule!
from a snow white Sweden
I’d send you shortbread but it’s not quite the same as a sugar daddy/cookie. And, hey, you don’t really want a sugar daddy – you’d end up paying a price!
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
soy un papi chulo, jaja…
I look at all of your comics and have since I first started visiting your site(I’m not even sure how I found you), a few months at least. Now if you had a pay pal donate button, I may have sent you an xmas gift.. Now it’s too late, but if you get one soon maybe you can get something before the new year..
You are deserving, hence (good word hey) hence, I repeat ’cause it sounds good, I’ve asked Santa Klaus to find you a sugar da—– candy
i hope Santa will be more generous than us
But we are every day with you , Money , not always
Merry xmas Sera ————> mu@@@
i am glad someone gave you a little something for your lovely art. Maybe santa will give you a sugar daddy.
Good quote Sera. It’s like exposing yourself in public. it gets easier with practice :0
I hope Santa Claus brings you a bit of recognition, it must believe, a bit of work and hop! notoriety beyond the blog! Joyeux Noël!
I hope you get everything you desire under your tree, Sera.
Recognition is hard to get these days, I know, been there. I guess the best we can do is being proud of ourselves… (and hope for the sugar daddy?)
always love your work! merry christmas!
Best wishes for Christmas and New Year. Never give up, take what’s yours!
Oh, I missed that somehow. I’ll go through a few back issues and see if I can figure it out.
In any case: Happy Festivus, dear Seraphine, and may your pole be straight and shiny.
What a wonderful place to share the end of the year with the french donkey!
I think you pretty much nail it with this one: artists are very rarely independent – they need their sponsors / patrons. Unfortunately, those sponsors aren’t sugar cookies so much as puppet masters. We can look at guys like da Vinci or Michaelangelo and think how brilliant they were. We don’t remember nearly often enough how uterly miserable and unhappy they were with their patrons.
Hehe, I need a sugar momma! What you need to do is sell out, like me, I’m making a Valentine’s day tshirt. I love sinking to new lows.
