The negotiations have begun. We don’t want to disappoint loved ones, but we don’t want to stress our finances either. If you want that iPod, I get a new camera. What will it take to make you happy?
Three in 10 Americans report a job loss in their household in the past year; among the rest, nearly half are worried about it happening in the months ahead. That makes it an uncomfortable time to spend.
Quotation from ABC News
If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.
Quotation from Dalai Lama

i find the Dalai Lama very suspect, what’s he always smiling about?? is it because everybody thinks he’s cool? you never see the pope grinning like a fool constantly lol the dalai lama is desperate to make the godless way look better, that pisses me off…. and that tick you were talking about it? the dalai lama thinks it’s his reincarnated great uncle fred and would have let it suck your blood hahahaha
i know what i will buy to you for x-mas , Sera : a good coffee pack, it seems the one in your cup is not very tasty
Greatings et bisous
All i am saying is that this may well be the most depressing Christmas for some parents and children who thought that Christmas was simply a gift giving day. Maybe, just maybe the best gift ever is the gift of life. That is what i wish for you on your b-day!
Well put Cosmic girl, I’m all done, and I’m sure of none…my family’s lucky, I have such passion for coffee, coffee cups, pens, journals, broken jewellry, pewter, angels, any book, hey I can be bought for a dollar…why isn’t everybody easy like me? lol Love your strip always
I understand the, “For Christmas, I want…” from children – that whole Santa Claus thing…
But from those who already have just about everything they need or want? I’d like to see the gift-giving aspect of Christmas taken down a few notches – $$-wise.
Have noted your birthday.
Yeah, I would much rather you be naughty.
me too john – naughty suits our Sera best
Giving gifts is always such a great pleasure…a gift may be small and in-expensive, it is the feeling behind it that could make it priceless…wonderful image and post as always Sera:)
You know as much as i admire the dalai lama and all his teachings and blah blah blah, trying to be compassionate all the time can be a right pain in the arse!
Naughty is so much more fun. I don’t accept bribes though so its up to you.
The donkey has a secret, he is often late in his buying decision… he loves gifts with no usefulness which cause brain torture in order to undertand what it is..
naughty is pretty nice, ya know.
If the ABC report is true, 30% of Americans are either unemployed or underemployed.
I am one of them, count me in….
There must be an other way of giving besides looting Walmart and such. The song of compassion has many different verses. One of the verses is, to create something with your own hands. I’d rather receive a nice paper ornament to be pasted on my window for a while, than the newest Nano iPod.
Let’s boycott the stores – and make giving from the heart for real!
haha i know!!! ticks are skeeeery, but what about dear great dead uncle fred and compassion? lololol
Very good points – although I still barely have a job – I can maybe buy a few things but I don’t have enough of a job this year to even negotiate! I like the portrait!
Most people don’t have compassion for themselves which is sad. Everyone has something to give even if it isn’t something found at a store. In fact, it’s probably better if not but we’re a very materialistic bunch and tend to hold grudges too. ‘I gave you an i-pod and you gave me a smile? What’s that about?’
The greatest gift to me….is eating and laughing together.
I’m very happy we stopped spending uselessly for Xmas in my family for 2 Xmas in a row now, only kids will have gifts and the adults will share a happy dinner altogether while the kids jump with joy. Xmas turned into a commercial affair sucks, i prefer giving some euros to the homeless instead that night… and we, adults, offer each other bigger gifts for our birthdays. Now, i love Xmas !
To be financially independent (or, at least, learning to eb an entrepreneur).
Love the naughtiness implied in this sexy little comic strip, Seraphine. Best to be naughty but nice.
I do not worry for crazy Christmas shopping ! My family is far away , so phone calls and cards are all
) As for sons … hmmm.. . every day is Christmas day for them
)
I really don’t shop for Christmas – does that make me a bad person?
I send personal stuffs to my family in France once in a while. I send money to my sister. I’ll get something to Feng… and that’s about it. I don’t really get any gifts either.
I don’t like this huge pressure to buy buy buy.
I limit to my Mom and Aunt. It just simplifies things so much!
)
All I want for XMas is a #$@%(#$^ baby alligator. Will someone finally hook me up??? nooooooo, everyone is worried about the ‘practicality’ of such a present. But if I am given this gift I tell them, think of all the goodwill they will receive from me.
