A dating website called Beautiful People only accepts new members by a popular vote of its existing members. In the past month, its members rejected almost two million hopefuls who had posted online photos of themselves. Their verdict? Swedish men and Norwegian women are the most beautiful in the world (with 76% of them accepted). Brazilians also scored high. Meanwhile, Britons are considered among the ugliest in the world, along with Russian and Polish men. The Germans also didn’t poll very well (only 14% were accepted).

this post reminds me of that dreadful but compulsive reality tv show where so-called beautiful people were judged on their “inner beauty”…. it was hysterically bad… did you ever see it?

Well imagine that, never heard of it…all I can think is the poor beautiful people…what happens when they lose their looks..a whole generation of ex-beautiful people.. hating every inch of who they are not and never have been…

Beauty is not gonna last. That is an absolute fact. These idiots that go around with their noses in the air usually end up very unhappy. The hell with finding a beautiful woman to share my life with. I would be happy if she was into the same things as me and could communicate intelligently. That’s all i care about. Of course if she was beautiful on top of it i would have to wonder about her sanity, picking me.
All my life I have been the athlete, the popular guy, good looking; yet it really means nothing. The most beautiful person I ever met was not outwardly physically attractive. It was her inner beauty that I have never found equaled. So to hell with that dating website, if the members are so shallow that they are attracted to outward appearance alone they will never know the true joy of being around a genuine beauty.
Your cleverness is a daily gift through what you share here. I have to admit I’m more on photos and don’t read a lot on blogs but yours is really special and I think I’ll stop by more often. Everyone is beautiful… and ugly. When you pratise photography, you learn so much about the reality that is of course always in-between. Depends on so many things, moments, inner life, inner sun or rain, come back tomorrow and the ugliest becomes the sweetest and vice versa… I don’t know if you know this ad I love, french one a famous singer and compositeur, Serge Gainsbourg, recorded years ago for Polaroïd. He took a Polaroïd of himself (known to have a not handsome face) and said “That face I have today, in 10 years, I’ll regret it”……

I think there’s something a little twisted about a dating site for beautiful people only.
Sour grapes on my part? Nah…
I’ve never heard of that web site and its acceptance policies. It seems to me that a good immune system trumps looks any day. I don’t like going to the doctor.
The easiest thing to do in this world is to look beautiful. Just wear a smile.
From my experience of having seen (and not been) great physical beauty lasts only for a tiny part of a normal human lifespan. It’s kind of like being able to bat 400. It’s what do you do for an encore that counts in the long run.
That dating agency would piss me right off, mind you at my age I shouldn’t give a monkeys. It’s just that I don’t like other people who think that they can ‘decide’ or ‘approve’ another. Best thing is just be your own beautiful self

They probably think of themselves as average, since they live with themselves on a daily bais, consequently, they are commonplace.
I saw that article too, but it doesn’t tell what the voting demographics were. There may be a skew to people voting for their own phenotype or a phenotype they presume to be more attractive (for example, in Peru, white people are considered more attractive than darker skinned people – which, I, as a bonafied pink skin, find odd, because I would love to have tannable skin like my wife, instead of pasty white, then lobster red and back to pasty white type of tannable skin I have).
I find symmetry and proportion to be important for beauty. A great smile doesn’t hurt either.

Beauty is all over, some see it, some don’t. Something beautiful for one is ugly for another. But society has contributed to determine what is beautiful and what is not, and it all has become very superficial in some cases.

Out of curiosity, I look at the website and found the members diverse, yet strangely… normal. Beautiful? Sure, why not. More beautiful? Well, how would you judge from a single picture submitted? More importantly, what is beauty?
It is above all a cultural view.
