The end of the world is getting nearer and nearer, hurling towards us at over 25,000 miles an hour. The current assumption is there is a 10% chance per century of a dangerous, life destroying space object striking the earth.
Apophis is small by asteroid standards, perhaps 300 meters across, but it could hit with about 60,000 times the force of the Hiroshima bomb– enough to destroy an area the size of France.
Quotation from The Atlantic, The Sky is Falling by Gregg Easterbrook
If Apophis is a RETROGRADE rotator on the small, less-massive end of what is possible, the measurement uncertainty region will get pushed back such that the center of the distribution encounters the Earth’s orbit. This would result in an impact probability much higher than computed with the Standard Dynamical Model.
Quotation from U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Near Earth Object Program, Predicting Apophis’ Earth Encounters in 2029 and 2036.

i hope it hits me right on the head lol the end of the world doesn’t scare me coz i’m a Christian, but HOW i would die scares me, i’m very anti-suffering
Bring it on – I’m ready for action
Ah well, 2012 comes first. I do expect to still be around to see it and I’m fully expecting the Mayans and all the wisest shamans of all the tribes to come and tip the planet gently out of the way of the asteroid. Once that’s done everything starts looking up for Gaia and her children.
Brilliant! I’ve looked through some of your comics. They are all brilliantly done.
Wonderful light and the color in this picture of a dry meadow. Marvellous!
lol , happy friday 13 , Sera
, i have time to drink again some beers before 2036
have a great week end
This puts an urge to be in a sense of “present presence” as much as possible
before there is no more moments of presence … to come
Beautiful capture. Have a good day. Antoine.
Enjoy the present first of all became my rule for more than one year now, it’s a good shelter against Fears of all kinds
Love the zigzag over the skin of this blonde hill. Something is opening up (the new chapter ?
Hopefully… Have a nice week-end now ~
Yes nice top shot Sera and not a cloud to be seen there either
2029 eh, today is enough to worry about for me.
Well there you go seeing the positive side of things, I’ve done a lot of research on life and death, and fromwhat i gathered and concluded is that we, humankind are very immature to think we have so much power over the earth…;)
Whatever happens is good . All is good
)
Beautiful capture.
Whew. I don’t need to workout today then. Except for the Halloween Candy Workout, of course.
What an amazing blog!!! You just gave me another reason to enjoy each and every day!!!
Great picture and post Sera:) Thank God the strike is 27 years away!!!!
I am not terribly worried. If it does happen, I probably won’t notice.
Besides, the real end of the world is on 19 Jan 2038 at 3:14:07 AM GMT, when the UNIX timestamp rolls over and trhe world crashes and burns.
Not doubt, the 99942 Apophis is simply a portent of doom as is the annular solar eclipse occuring on 05-Jan-2038.
So … kick back and relax ’cause you’ve got two extra years.
Love this photo – as if you captured an earthquake in the making! And it appears, according to Richard, that the world will end on my birthday in 2038!! How strange…
I love the solid swathes of colour here in this shot Sera. Very nice.
There is no end to this world, as much people wish for it, it will not happen.
Just stop worrying, dear. Apophis is not the only thing that can destroy the world.
Once again, your comic rocks.
This is great – I now have more time for photography – I was in such a hurry because I thought I only had until 2012! It seems every 10 years or so we have some apocalyptic, end of the world hysteria that occurs. I guess as humans we must gravitate towards the fear and excitement that it creates. Great work on this one!
People have been predicting the end of the world for thousands of years. Who knows, maybe it will happen tomorrow?!
Well at least we got some time to ponder… I just saw 2012, and as you said, live life in the now instead of planning too much. Nice image too.
No chance for a delay? I have planned some vacations in 2036!
great image, love the textures
Some of us may be lucky enough to be dead and buried by then, Seraphine….but our children and our children’s children? Sigh! Maybe they’ll have it all figured out by then?!
I don’t know, Seraphine. I’m pretty stubborn. So, I’ll still continue to work out!

I wonder how many people max out their credit card “because it is almost the end of the world”.
Ya whatever. The end of the world my butt. How self centered is our race anyway. You think because we ruin the planet for our own habitation the WORLD is gonna end? Not bloody likely. It will just be some other organism’s chance to shine.
