Today is Remembrance Day, also called Veterans Day or Poppy Day. It’s a day to honor all of those who sacrifice during times of war.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Poem by Lt.-Col. John McCrae, In Flanders Fields

i don’t like to remember, even tho it’s a good thing to do… it makes me sad
very good image, i like the fence in the forground
It’s a good image, especially for the day. The barbed wire says it all…and beautifully so.
Beautiful capture. Have a good day. Antoine.
Sad
An interesting comic you have here with an eclectic mix of photographs and illustrations. Thank you for visiting and commenting on my photography. I am wondering if your picture today is using the barbed wire as a reference to some of the “over the top” actions of soldiers in the trenches of the First World War?
I love how you did that Seraphine, it’s wonderful!
It seems we don’t remember quite well enough. Or perhaps our politicians are just not careful enough with our lives. Good shot at the top and a poignant strip.
Poppy day, I understand better some pix on the web now – thnks for your always imagitive witty work & words, whatever the mood of the day, Seraphine*
Beautiful and touching image…thanks for this.
An excellent and touching Remembrance Day set.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!
very beautiful.I love the shot so much.sth like prison….
Dreamlike, poetic, engaging – and ever the ring of truth.. merci merci merci
(in a sing song voice)MEMORIES!!!
I don’t need no stinkin day of remembrance to honor this countries soldiers. They have always been my hero’s. Just too bad for them they seem to have fought for no reason, as this county seems hell bent on creating a socialist government the likes of which they fought tooth and nail to rid Europe of. A bit of a slap in the face to their memories.
We should all thank a Veteran… Whenever and wherever… Not just on November 11.
Wonderful work and I like your reminder for Veterans Day! I also like your image with the barbed wire fence going into the distance – is that Mt. Diablo in the distance or is it Mt. Tamalpais or some range in the north bay?
Hi Scott. The photo is from Jack London State Park in Glen Ellen, California. Looking north, that would be Mount Saint Helena.
No war is a good war. They’re always fought by the young for the benefit of the old, jaded and power hungry.
However, your post about Armistice Day is beautiful and very touching.
Barbed wire entanglement frighten the poor donkey on his way to the green grass!
How not to forget all the human’s horrors?
Love the photo, nice angle.
I love what you do from an event … Imagination, intellect and spirit, bravo!
While I thinkit is an important day to remember, for me, it is not a day of glory and honour, but a day of sadness to reflect on the gross failure of humanity.
Bonjour. Ta photo du magnifique paysage est superbe. Très belle composition. Merci de ton passage sur mon blog. C’est super sympa. Je te souhaite de passer une excellente après-midi. Amicalement Antoine.
The aching heart….you can feel it here, Seraphine!
Unfortunately the US has been continuously at war since it’s conception. Ample fodder to keep “Remembrance Day” well and alive for those who got killed in combat. I worked with war veterans from Korea and Vietnam for half a year. You should hear their stories. They are colorful and sad. The collateral damage is not only death, but more so the hundred of thousands of people who came back, damaged beyond repair, drugged up … lost.
And this game is continuing in Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
It’s fine to hug a veteran, it’s better to aim for that there will be no veterans at all.
I am always so sad to think the young ones who loose their lives in a war…I hate wars…
About your kind words, thanks so much!!!
It is so nice to have great friends like you…it really changes my mood of the day…thanks my dear!
All the great men who fought for this country deserve to be remembered and recognized.
I just have to take Matthew up on his bizarre grasp of politics and history. The war in Europe was actually fought against fascism and one of the outcomes of it was a Labour government (Socialist) in the UK. This was the Government which introduced the National Health Service bringing free medical treatment to all. Something that I would say is a basic requisite of compassionate societies affluent enough to afford it.
So sad:(
i have to think of it, more of it…
Amazing… isn’t it? That some people have to die for a better world, a peaceful world, and a friendly world… something that should have been there anyway already. Who took it away? Who made this world so worse that people actually have to die now to make it better?
Good to remember those who once were at risk of being forgotten. May we always remember…
The top picture is awesome.
