“Love Conquers All” is written above the door. Omnia Vincit Amor. The phrase is taken from Virgil’s Eclogues. This comes from the belief that without Love, everything is meaningless. But is it possible to love pain? Would loving pain conquer it?
People are afraid of themselves, of their own reality; their feelings most of all. People talk about how great love is, but that’s bullshit. Love hurts. Feelings are disturbing. People are taught that pain is evil and dangerous. How can they deal with love if they’re afraid to feel? Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they’re wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain.
Quotation from Jim Morrison
Embrace of Pain (Starwars Wiki) “The device could induce so much pain that it was capable of turning even the most noble Jedi to the dark side of the Force.”
P.S. Happy Independence Day, America!

Embrace the pain for a while, if you must. But I believe in pain pills and ibuprofen whenever necessary. I don’t think it’s cheating.
I hope you feel better soon…
they say dying’s part of living, and hurting’s part of loving. it’s possible to live without pain – this i know from experience. but it means living without feeling – which is a kind of living death. not that i agree with the ‘embrace pain theology’. but we all have times when facing it takes more strength than we think we have. blessings and healing.
Nice post Seraphine,
Some might say you can’t grow without pain.
I hope you have a great 4th weekend!
“Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who tells you different is selling something.”
– The Man in Black, in “The Princess Bride”
wow, love the jim morrison quote. Feelings are disturbing – SO TRUE and necessary.
I really admire your ability to express things so well.
As someone who has lived with near-constant pain for the past five years, I *wish* I didn’t empathize with this one!
I do, though, and I’m sorry you’re going through it too…
I don’t enjoy pain but I’ve learned while enduring it to try to accept it so others may be spared suffering. I’m not nearly good enough for that to work but every little bit helps.. kind of like hoping one prayer of thanksgiving out of a million gets through.
I hope you’re feeling better and that some day soon the pain will be another fading memory.
No pain – No gain
No Pain – No pleasure
The way we operate, in order to experience, we need opposites…..
but it doesn’t mean you have to flog yourself to death. My quote would come from the grand finale of ‘Life of Brian’ “Always look on the bright side of life.”
Sorry that was a bit glib. Hope things are getting better
Pain is a great cleanser… and a great excuse to get drunk.
I’d rather feel pain than nothing at all.
Nah, just kidding. I’ll take a double dose of painkillers, please.
Actress to Clint Eastwood: “You’re the kind of man who makes people afraid”.
Eastwood to Actress (whose name I’ve forgotten): “It’s what people know about themselves that makes them afraid”.
