There are Real Friends and there are Placebo Friends. Real Friends are reliable and very rare. Everyone else is a Placebo Friend, part of the control group that stays with you only through the good times. That doesn’t make Placebo Friends evil. One can be both a Real Friend to someone and a Placebo Friend to another.
What are friends?
Friends are people that you think are your friends
But they really your enemies, with secret indentities
and disguises, to hide they true colors
So just when you think you close enough to be brothers
they wanna come back and cut your throat when you ain’t lookin’
Lyrics by Eminem, If I Had
Misfortune shows those who are not really friends.
Quotation from Aristotle, Eudemian Ethics

are you fighting with someone?
‘When the going gets tough, the tough get going’
This could, of course, be a ‘brain fart’
Lost in space again.
I have to admit I don’t understand Eminem’s lyrics. They don’t bear analysis except as a tool for destroying the meaning of words.
You always inspire so much thought, my head begins to swim, and I can barely figure out how to post all the things I want to say. Narrowing it down to 2 points:
1. I’ve given up on making real friends. I have a few, that’s probably all I’m entitled to anyway.
2. Misfortune isn’t always a good litmus test either.
Interesting images but that’s a tricky one. Friendships are often described as something we invest in with all the concurrent dangers we face when gambling that something will rise or fall in value. The spirit may be willing but the flesh is often weak.
Aristotle’s quote is so true. Throughout all my mishaps and misfortunes in the last few years, my friends seemed to have dispersed. I suppose it’s hard to be around someone who has a dark cloud hanging over them.
Tough times are a true test of character for your friends. Glad i already know the truth about mine.
