It’s said that looks don’t matter because eventually everybody meets in the middle anyway. But ohhh, what easier paths some people have getting there than others.
Full Version. Win Susan Win. Susan Boyle on Britain’s Got Talent (YouTube video)
Euphoria, unease at UK web singing sensation Boyle (Reuters) “Is Susan Boyle ugly? Or are we? By raising this Susan up, we will forgive ourselves for grinding every other Susan into the dust.”

Against a heightened sense of a carefully orchestrated assumed failure, reinforced by judges rolling eyes and an amused audience a frumpy Susan revealed her beautiful voice singing one of the most beautiful songs from Les Miserable’s.
Good luck and congratulations to her but at the risk of making myself unpopular I think there are many with equally beautiful voices – and others superior – who may never quite make it to the top.
Maybe this was the moment to forgive all of society’s stereotypes by embracing this one unlikely highly talented Susan.
Best wishes
You wont end up being frumpy
You will end up being old
before ending up ending up
For someone who is (supposedly) so “frumpy” Susan Boyle has a lot of spunk and character. I think we do her a disservice by assuming she’s had such a sad life. Good looks and beauty may make the journey easier but they’re highly over-rated.
Susan Boyle is my hero. So are you.
I didn’t want to end up being frumpy, either, but somehow it just happened when I wasn’t looking. And I can’t even sing.
I like what Grouser said about ending up being old. I never minded the idea of old as much as I do the idea of frumpy. Of course, when I actually hit officially “OLD” I may have changed my mind.
For right now, I’m trying to embrace my inner frumpiness.
I didn’t think she looked frumpy at all – she was neatly dressed and has a not bad figure for her age. Frumpy might apply to her hair and unplucked eyebrows but if Brooke Shields can have those, why not Susan Boyle???
The sad thing is that the price of her getting a singing contract will be that they make her over. I live with a cat and much prefer it to residing with (annoying/demanding) human beans. Some of us on the planet are solitary souls by nature and don’t mind it a bit.
OMG. I had that very same thought!
ooohhh but i think i am willing to consider living alone with my cat a happy existence! LOL
We’ve gone beyond the point where acceptable looks involve wearing mask A,B or C. The idea of being proud of youth or health is a patent absurdity.
Its funny i just saw that performance 2 days ago and it was great. I do have to say that the funniest thing is how shocked everyone was. Like you can’t sing beautifully unless you look just as good on the outside. How freakin shallow is that? I hope they give her a chance to go far. It would be really interesting to hear her sing the different styles.
Video really did kind of kill the radio star. I remember being disappointed by the fact that artists such as Meatloaf, Steven Tyler, and Joe Walsh did not look as handsome as they sounded.
