The code of the schoolyard, Marge! The rules that teach a boy to be a man. Let’s see: Don’t tattle. Always make fun of those different from you. Never say anything, unless you’re sure everyone feels exactly the same way you do.
Quotation from Homer Simpson

I am not sure that I do understand everything you say this time, perhaps my mind is today not capable to receive mixed signals.
Just so much: The schoolyard of the 70′s in my town was a rough awakening.
Rough schoolyard playing for me and I never asked for permission (how sad!).
The only thing missing from this list was “and don’t show your feelings”. I must have been a progressive little kid because I never listened to the schoolyard rules, got paddled a lot and spent time in detention. All these years later, I smile and say “I won”. An awesome Blog Sera (as usual)

eww…that icky grade school daze
That Homer
He’s got his finger on the pulse of the modern world
I preferred detention to being in the schoolyard. Still do.
ooohhh simpsons. cool. you know this reminds me of the book ‘everything i know i learned from kindergarten’ by fulghum. i just hope i got the title right. LOL
I’m not too familiar with the USA model but what strikes me is the propensity of schools heavily reliant on layering of strict rules and regulations to be unhappy Institutions.
During my brief experience on the coral atoll of Abaiang it was amazing to witness the unusually respectful and courteous nature of all students towards teachers and schools in general as a consequence of very strong family cultural influence. Enforcing the few rules was not an issue, just as playing in the playground seemed to be a very happy experience as best I could observe- beseiged by students handing out high fives .
Best wishes
Holocron. So you’re a Star Wars Expanded Universe geek, too, huh?
