It’s like living in a van down by the river, only without the van

If wireless is the future, will I feel even more disconnected?
I do not believe in the doctrine of the greatest good of the greatest number. It means in its nakedness that in order to achieve the supposed good of 51 per cent the interests of 49 per cent may be, or rather, should be sacrificed. It is a heartless doctrine and has done harm to humanity. The only real dignified human doctrine is the greatest good of all.
Quotation from Mahatma Gandhi
You’re gonna have to serve somebody,
It may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you’re gonna have to serve somebody.
Lyrics from Bob Dylan, Gotta Serve Somebody

Getting a liberal arts education is good idea- but what is valuable is not always valued. Gandhi’s non violence philosophy was inspiring and an effective weapon against the British, but subsequently during the partition of independent India over a million lives was lost in the ensuing fighting. Best wishes
over-qualification scares employers
I never understood the whole over-qualified thing. How in hell can you be over-qualified? Its just nonsense for i am afraid you will take my job from me some day and therefore i am not going to hire you. Gutless turds.
Mahatma Gandhi is the man. His teachings should be required reading in school.
“Conservative…liberal arts education…”
Love that! So true and I’d never put those two thoughts together.
That’s what’s so rewarding about blogging – experiencing those “jolts” and seeing the world via different perspectives.
Try self employment
So much more satisfying
Gandhi hits the mark most succinctly. If you want an Education – do one for you rather than a potential future employer. It’s you that has to live with it. What is a suitable “degree” for employers now, may not be relevant in 10 years. Build into yourself the things that are of major interest to you and I’m with Grouser … self-employment is better. In times of economic hardship, the simply and innovative always finds a way to make a buck and survive.
a boss never likes to know he could be replaced.
“The purpose of human life is to serve and to show compassion and the will to help others.”
Albert Schweitzer
Seraphine: This is the best post I’ve ever seen on alienation! I have that Dylan recording and yes, it’s amazing how many of us feel like we’re living “the big disconnect”. But I guess the opportunity lurking is to find that person with whom we “fit” and where there is really the opposite experience to the static you expect to hear when a TV station goes “off the air”. Bravooo! You amaze me!

I never understood the term “over qualified.”
