Punishment should fit the crime. I’m offended when I read that Bernard Madoff, the crook who pled guilty to defrauding $65 Billion from investors, schools and charities, might be eligible for release or parole in 20 years.

I’m gonna lock my heart
And throw away the key
I’m wise to all those tricks you played on me
I’m gonna turn my back on love
Gonna snub the moon above and
Seal all my windows up with tin.
Lyrics from Billie Holiday, I’m Gonna Lock My Heart And Throw Away The Key

God forbid the tax payer gets any relief. Just because it’s their tax $$ paying for the bailouts and bonuses (AIG!) why should they be considered?
Argh.
Only an idealist would say something that ignorant. Honesty and hard work are only good for one thing. Your soul. You can get everything you want if you be like them but you have to sell your soul. Not really worth it to me.
It’s only money
Honey
He didn’t kill or maim anyone, just exploited peoples greed and twenty years is a long time
How the mighty do fall. 20 yrs is probably a good long time to rot away in a little cell after the mansion living he was used to. Rather fitting punishment in a way. Not that it compensates the rest of you … thats the shame of it all.
It seems that financial crimes are not taken very seriously… messing up with money is, I guess, acceptable! Weird.
I have a feeling he’ll be taken ill fairly soon and will be transferred somewhere secure but comfortable. Sure he did it all by himself with his little laptop
And Mrs. Madoff? Gah.
He (Madoff) is going to be dead in 20 years, but I find the system repulsive no matter what. Think about it. If that guy would have been in his 40′s during his conviction, he would then still retire after the prison sentence in his 60′s with billions of dollars at hand. That’s sicko justice.
Anyhow, I’ve been away for a bit and now trying to catch up on your posts Sera.
I will try to bring more positive vibes to my blog in the next few posts – promise!
