I’m not comfortable with the concept of a Sandman (Marchand du Sable). The idea of anyone sneaking into my bedroom to put milk or sand in my eyes creeps me majorly. Plus Plus Plus… Did you know the brother of the Sandman is Death? Yes, it’s horrifyingly true.
Mr. Sandman, I’m so alone.
Don’t have nobody to call my own.
Please turn on your magic beam,
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream.
Lyrics to Mr. Sandman by the Chordettes
Hush little baby, dont say a word
And never mind that noise you heard
Its just the beast under your bed,
In your closet, in your head.
Lyrics to Enter Sandman by Metallica

“Sandman” always makes me think of Blue Velvet
Sleeping is our doorway to death, I think. When we leave our consciousness. And explore. Why should death/sleep be feared?
Yes. The Sandman is creepy, and so are many other figures of our childhood. The Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy creep me out, too.
I was never thrilled with the idea of the tooth fairy entering my room. And the concept of a bogeyman under the bed is still with me (although I know better…).
Forget about a fairy. The fact that my parents could come into my room and move a pillow with my head on it to change out a tooth for coin is a bit disturbing. How heavy did i sleep as a kid? Now, if i hear just about any noise at night it wakes me up. Kinda odd.
As a child I often couldn’t sleep because of asthma but every night I said the ‘Now I lay me down prayer’ and waited. I never liked the idea of my parents dying but was never too bothered about myself.
I hate those nights when I can’t fall asleep.
I need my sleep and any bogeyman that comes along would get short shrift from me!!! I always hated clowns as a kid … still do in fact. They creep me out.
