When dollars were first printed in the United States, they weren’t considered money. They were Promissary Notes backed by gold or silver coins. Now it seems, cowry shells (the shell most commonly used worldwide as currency) may have more value than the once almighty dollar.
I feel like sitting on a beach and watching a pretty sunset.
Bernard Madoff arrested over alleged $50 billion fraud (Reuters)
The last time as ever i see him, poor thing, was with my own blessed motherly eyes,
Sitting as good as gold in the gutter, a playing at making little dirt pies.
Poem from The Poetical Works of Thomas Hood
A wind has started a little whirlpool
of sand where the carpet ought to be,
and shells lie
by the preposterous feet
of that woman who frets me, annihilates me,
O’ she will kill me yet.
Poem from Hilda Doolittle, Halcyon

It is sort of bizarre what is happening right now. I have no stocks, but out of curiosity I watch the stock market. It resembles those mercury temperature gauges they stuck into your butt-whole to measure fever when you were young and suffering a cold.
The first time I went to The USA as a 17 year old boy, one US Dollar would buy four Swiss Franks, now it is almost on par…. 1 to 1. That’s insane.
I am glad I still have my nice collection of cowry shells and several boxes of mother-of-pearl buttons for my pearly queen dress. There may even be enough left for a suit. At last I am a rich girl.
Time to get off the grid, me thinks.
Your US Treasury confirmed an issuance of $30 billion in four-week Treasury Bills at an interest rate of zero percent.
Now that’s the first time that’s happened since the government began issuing the notes in 2001. Hence those participating US investors are happy to accept the equivalent rate of return on T-bills as hiding cash under a mattress, presumably a clean one without any bed bugs. Best wishes
At least it’s keeping your hands warm. I’m having to wear fingerless gloves over here.

Ya that’s the answer…
What we are short of funds? Just print more.
What in the hell are these morons thinking? Or is that giving them too much credit?
Maybe if we keep at it we can devalue the Dollar to the point where we can start printing million, even better, billion dollar notes! Yeha! Sign me up.
I’m on day three. Haven’t spent a penny in three days. However, my need to go grocery shopping is fast approaching.
Second thought SERA, and I listened attentively to Lindsays argumentation’s, by all means.
Once upon a time (starts like a fairy tale) the dollar was actually a “value” , a note backed up by real assets. This has presently dropped to oblivion, Fort Knox has been robbed by invisible gangsters, the ones who once tried to keep the so mighty “gold reserve” secure. Greed has neither a beginning nor an end. It is basically a virus, uncurable once you got it.
Oh, I am tired of this stuff and will take a nap now. Talk to you later.
The removal of the gold standard was Nixon’s doing. He did it to devalue the dollar when he opened up trade with China. This was his real crime – not Watergate.
Very interesting!
