De gustibus non est disputandum is Latin for There is no arguing about taste or, as thoughtful people might observe, To each her own. I’m a great believer in free choice. But what we order from the menu isn’t always what we get to eat. And we all have to eat.

Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.
Quotation from Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
Pride in a man is confused with dignity; in a woman, with self-love.
Quotation from José Bergamín

I’d rather swallow than spit.
This sounds extremely… well, let’s just say I wouldn’t say it aloud
It’s hard to swallow ones pride and admit to either being wrong on occasions or needing to rely heavily on the help of others. But I have found in my life that most people respond very graciously when you simply ask……..can you help?
In my opinion asking for help is a sign of strength of character and openness and need not be confused with any weakness or in not bothering to follow things through. I agree with the quotations, as vanity is a different matter again, since it is even less likely to ever acknowledge any need of any help.
Best wishes
I think Lindsay said it very well above.
I am personally confronted with pride when I did something well, an object, a deed. If I had to swallow it completely because of other peoples rejection, I would feel hurt.
It is never our pride we swallow
it is only the overdue, “the braging”
Pride comes before a fall. And i love your new hair
I swallow my rage…
She who is first will become last, and she who is last will become first.
Humility is not easy to come by, but when achieved, grace follows.
Just goes to show you where my personal head is at: I see the word “swallow” and immediately think of Monty Python, grails, laden versus unladen, and African versus European.
Wallowing on swallowing? Or quitting on spitting?
Swallowing is usually the simplest way to deal with sticky messes.
A friend of mine said there was no worse restaurant experience than ordering their $10 macaroni and cheese only to be served the same stuff you can buy at the supermarket for $1. That’s hard to swallow.
Jane Austin notwithstanding, I offer up Humphrey Bogart: “Nothing a little Bourbon and Soda couldn’t fix”. Otherwise, Bravo! Bravooo!!!

I have when I have to swallow my rage or my anger!
Love Jane Austin’s quotation!
