I have great expectations for you, Mr. President-elect Obama. I hope I’m not being unreasonable. I believe in equal opportunity and equal rights for all people, including equal protection under the law. I don’t believe government can (or should) do everything, but I think government should be honest and balanced and measured to be inclusive of individuals rather than exclusive of them. I wish you bon voyage and a happy honeymoon.
P.S. Please invite me to the rehearsal dinner.
I do not want a honeymoon with you. I want a good marriage.
Quotation from President Gerald Ford to the U.S. Congress
Your mind now, moldering like wedding-cake,
heavy with useless experience, rich
with suspicion, rumor, fantasy,
crumbling to pieces under the knife-edge
of mere fact. In the prime of your life.
Poem by Adrienne Rich, Snapshots of a Daughter-in-Law

I do hope he’ll keep his words and will struggle to do what he promised.

Didn’t Ford only last 3 years as President or something? About the average length of a marriage these days…

It seems that not only America but the whole world feels the taste of victory in their mouth. Although Brazil is the biggest producer of Biofuel, and Obama’s politics seem to be very protectionists, making our trade a bit difficult, we are very confident we’ll have some good deal in the future. We are all happy for having this break through, amongst so many other things, a black man leading the most powerful nation in the world. I’m already believing in a change. Cheers to that!!

I’m a little bit in love with Obama. I mean politically- if there is such a thing. I just think people need to be reasonable with their expectations towards him. I expect great things from him too, but I’m aware of the fact that he has inherited one of the worst political situations any president has ever found himself with at the start of his term. It will take years to get some of the issues fixed. People cannot expect him to just click his fingers and have all the problems removed. But when I look at his political record of how many issues he has tackled, and how fearless he is, and how he can inspire people and make them believe and hope, then I have no doubt that he can do amazing things. Just not already tomorrow.
What are you doing in that cage thing? You look like a pet-rabbit.
Fancy party with Obama, hmmn. If I take a shower, can I come along?
I agree with Bettina, there is a long road ahead…

It’s okay to hope, we all need it. He is not the messiah but hopefully he can get the job done.
You need to get out of the cage though, you’re a free woman.
Your headers are always so inventive and fun.
Thanks for your comment, looks like we may be getting some cooler weather in about a week or so as well. *crosses fingers* because I have so many items I want to get out of storage and wear!

Like your Gerald Ford quote.
And the header.
Just found your blog.
Keep creating…without hesitation,
Mike
I agree with Betts. Long Road ahead … don’t make his pedestal too high Sera and great things might happen over time. (quietly passes you some wire cutters.)

I imagined Ricky Ricardo reading the poem and it took on a renewed meaning. Of course, my late father had a Ricky Ricardo accent. That may have triggered the thought. Very cool.
Smiles to you, Seraphine!

It’s the end of the campaign rhetoric and the beginning of new era, one that I think still promises to be much more inclusive with the rest of the world. But I don’t think Obama has any hope in hell of matching all of that rather grand campaign rhetoric, as expectations (already identified by the bloggers) are too high. One needs to be realistic given the fact it is the worst economic conditions since WW2 for any incoming President.
Best wishes

I think Obama is a real leader, and not a pursuer of the interest of a group of mighty people who think that if their interest is best served, then the interest of everybody is also served. Leaders are defined by, among others, the admiration and love of their followers, and a true leader doesn’t want them to be just “followers”, but that they do something on own initiative for the sake of the whole. (JFK: “don’t ask America what it can do for you, but etc.”
.
I think a bit of honeymoon-feeling is justified, it’s a good sign, but after the honeymoon which is supposed to take only two weeks, back to normal again please. The bouquet toss in this case is the speech. Brides don’t speech, they stammer a few words and they better throw their bouquet into the audience

I think the US really needed a change, a big one. I’m happy they voted for Obama, and I hope it is for the best.

I liked the Gerald Ford quote too. I think this presidency will work out fine – no slap and tickle (like you know who) but statesmanship and competency.
