The Federal Budget is so large and complex, it’s inconceivable that anyone could possibly go through it “line by line” in an effort to reduce federal spending. Have you tried reading a prospectus? Did you understand it? Multiply that complexity a few trillion times and you’ll feel it’s like shooting at UFOs too.
But it’s unclear whether she is Bushian or Reaganite.
She doesn’t think aloud. She just… says things.

I am worried about you Sera,
Once all these people are without a job, who will be able to afford a pretty custom made dress?
I see that you already start growing your hair. Is that a precautionary measure against the present recession? Yes, the present recession, not the “might be future” recession….

Clinton from every point of view and particularly economically was much better than Bush. But if you check the official figures from your treasury direct website during his period in office you make a remarkable discovery.

Notice that Intergovernmental debt increased enormously during his time in office as the dotcom bubble increased wages and the resultant larger social security deductions.
As Social Security surpluses were absorbed into overall government spending (treasuries issued and sold in lieu) those surpluses were represented by increases in intergovernmental debt. But Clinton (inadvertently or otherwise) incorrectly added those social security surpluses into the bottom line budget to show an overall surplus.
Every year in fact was a deficit, except for his final year, when, after you deduct the intergovernmental debt increases you still arrives at a small surplus. The proof if you are bothered enough can easily be ascertained by simply observing the overall increase in total government debt during his administration.
But that line is now left maybe now for Obama …… but I think the cupboard is a lot bearer today!!
Prospectuses on the other hand are at least obliged to conform to recognized world wide accounting standards and principles in presenting past data comparisons and forecasts, however unreliable or unduly optimistic those forecasts may eventually turn out to be.
Best wishes

If the government you replace has already made sure your money is worth half as much does that mean you’ve cut federal spending in half?

My hope is that we don’t end up living like they did in the 30′s. Girl, you are so smart!
The easiest way to trim the Federal Budget (at least it woud be over here) would be to start at the TOP and throw out the greedy CEO’s onto the Street and give the power back to the workers. Would Americans just sit back and starve like in the 30′s??? or would we see a Revolution – like Russia or France???

Going through the federal budget “line by line” sounds rather boring. I’d vote for him just because he is willing to put himself through the ordeal!

I thought I posted a prior comment, but if it turns up delete it.
Your treasury website provides a good insight into the effect of budget deficits
http://www.treasurydirect.gov/NP/BPDLogin?application=np
If you are bothered enough you can observe the overall increase in total government debt which has increased under all prior administrations, albeit for one sole exception being the final Clinton year, when a small surplus was achieved. In the past social security surpluses which were spent and represented by the corresponding rise in intergovernmental debt (due back to social security) were incorrectly added to the budget outcome to give the appearance of an overall surplus. The proof is to follow the rise in total debt which has continued uninterrupted.
But that line is now left for Obama …… but I think the cupboard is a lot bearer today!!
