Remember those Nigerian scam letters?
How eerily familiar they suddenly are.
Nigerian Scam Letters (Snopes.com)
One of the things the government can’t do is run anything.
The only things our government runs are the post office
and the railroads, and both of them are bankrupt.
Quotation from Lee Iacocca
Let us not bankrupt our todays by paying interest on the regrets
of yesterday and by borrowing in advance the troubles of tomorrow.
Quotation from Ralph W Sockman, Triumph over Time

Now that you mention it, it does seem similar.

A nostalgic reminder of Inacco from Chrysler. Under his stewardship Chrysler sensibly refocused out of large unloved fuel guzzling cars (due to the then recent seventies oil shock) into smaller more efficient ones. He had the right idea but Chrysler was on the verge of bankruptcy, so he urgently sought help from an unloved Carter Administration. After much hand wringing they narrowly approved the massive bailout.
Another Inacco (to look after the current bailout) assisted by say 2,000 savvy accountants would be ideal, but who knows for sure, maybe there’s already one equivalent Inacco whose unrecognizable to us and there’s no need to invite applications from overseas.
Best wishes

That’s great! And I really relate to that last panel.
Oh, by the way, I am, as usual, in admiration of your deftness with your visual medium. Perfect for comics, and you do it so well.
P.S.:(what the hell is Lindsaylobe talking about?)

Very true, Sera. Great observation. I did get a few of the Nigerian e-mails too.
Trouble with the strictly top down approach to this is it dose nothing to address the underlying problems that created this situation.
Sure we save a few banks which is necessary but how dose that help people to pay the mortgages which these securities are based on when wages of of average Americans are plummeting in relation to skyrocketing costs of living ?
Even for those who still can make their mortgage payments, At what point dose it still make sense to pay it when the value of their home is rapidly dropping below what they owe on it ?
At best this is the equivalent of applying a diamond studded bandage to a bullet wound
If the firms involved are so essential to the economy they should have just nationalized them. What they want to do is re-inflate the bubble and that’s neither possible nor helpful. Let’s vote on whether or not we’re going to believe in gravity.

Yeah, what a mess. It is rather unreal isn’t it? Our banks are tight-assed up here and never loosened the purse strings. Regulators are tough too – guess it’s the ‘social’ part of social democracy. But we’re vulnerable too. As former Prime Minister Trudeau once said, “You have to be very careful when you’re a mouse sleeping with an elephant.
Your work is always great.
I was about to tell you to go ahead till I read “the transaction is 100% safe”!
LOve the way you illustrate scams. I wish the scamers could see it!
