Is television a reflection of our lives, or does it have an altering effect
on our actions and beliefs? It’s a form of communication, and as such,
it influences what we talk about and how we react to the world.
America Ferrera Slams The Hills, Gossip Girl (US Magazine) <== Sorry for the pop-ups and ads. They even put ads in the middle of the article. It's everything I hate about how some websites choose to engage their viewers.
Watch full episodes of The Hills (MTV.com) ==> Lauren and Heidi and me and Spencer.
Television helps blur the distinction between framed and unframed reality… Soap operas are in fact spatially inseparable from the rest of one’s life. In homes where television is on most of the time, they are also temporally integrated into one’s “real†life and, unlike the experience of going out in the evening to see a show, may not even interrupt its regular flow.
Quotation from Eviatar Zerubavel, The Fine Line: Making Distinctions in Everyday Life

Often television tries to tell us what we should think, rather than giving a balanced opinion and letting us decide. And because people today are generally lazy they are happy to be told what to think.

Television is just a tool. You can use it any way you like. There are enough channels out there it shouldn’t be hard to find what your looking for. The big networks my be feeding us mindless garbage but i can’t remember the last time i bothered to watch anything on those networks. Anyone who bases there outlook on life on what television gives you is really just a lazy thinker. Go read a book. You know those papery things with words.
Alas! King Kong’s days are over, even Trinny and Susannah would turn down his make over, so extend your talents elsewhere!
I think the nail in the coffin was Dian Fossey and the memorable “Gorillas in the Mist†which destroyed his macho image.
They tell me we spend more time on the on the Internet than the TV these days but I’ m not sure what effect that is going to have. I notice on TV much more interest in reality shows, but do you think it is really reality?
Best wishes
