Women Impressionists
Some friends invited me to go. I’m not sure if it’s
possible to ‘accurately and objectively’ record reality
using only light and color (any more than it’s possible
using only sound and language) but I’m excited anyway.
The Exhibition: Women Impressionists (Legion of Honor)
Art of Berte Morisot, French Impressionist (WebMuseum, Paris)
“The Impressionists dissolved forms. They painted blurry “impressions†of objects modified by changing light and atmospheric conditions—drifts of fog, shimmering forest shadows, the glow of gas lamps on rainy streets.”
Quotation from Stephen Kern, The Culture of Time and Space
“The best work of artists in any age is the work of innocence liberated by technical knowledge. The laboratory experiments that led to the theory of pure color equipped the impressionists to paint nature as if it had only just been created.”
Quotation from Nancy Hale, Mary Cassatt: A Biography of the Great American Painter

No doubt you will enjoy the visit to see first hand such beautiful paintings.
The most famous Impressionists in Australia lived very close where I reside to day.
Names like Roberts, Streeton, Condor, Mc Cubbin and Sutherland( who was a woman) all panted together and occupied a home in Hedelberg close to what is to day is the Heidi gallery. Sutherland had to leave in the evening in accordance with the Victorian influences that permeated society at the time. In many of out parks prints of these famous impressionists painters adorn the walk paths at regular intervals depicting those scenes not at all dissimilar to what you see today.
The way they have captured the light is simply incredible and they appear as fresh in colour to day and relevant as they did when first painted so long ago.
Strangely enough they were given the name ‘“Heidelberg School†by America Art critic Sidney Dickinson.
Best wishes

You know, I never made the connection to art until I read the comment above. I totally thought you really were talking about a drag act. I need some more culture in my life…

oh! it sounds like a wonderful exhibition but yes, agreed - i don’t you think you can objectively record with colours. Colours exhibit a particular mood, an emotion.

My brother is an impressionist painter. He gets angry with me when I stand to close to his works.
LOL @ the “men dressed in women’s clothing.”

I’d go! I haven’t been to a proper museum (especially art) in a while.

There is something of the Dakini in every woman; there is nothing of the woman in the Dakini.

*giggle*
Yes. A fine line, then, between the female and women impressionists. I’ve got an exploding Priscilla Queen of the Desert scene, done in pointalism, in my head. Eep.
