A Searching and Fearless Moral Inventory of Ourselves
“I am no longer the Decision Maker,” joked President Bush. But
if the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, which would overturn
“Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is passed, he’s expected to veto it.
“Gays are not liberated yet. Their struggle is just beginning in an American culture that is still essentially fearful about homosexuality. But some mothers of gays now march proudly in Gay Liberation parades—their children are just as precious to them as the children being defended by anti-gay forces. No matter how anyone feels on this explosive subject, mothers and their gay children are here to stay and everyone might as well get on with dealing with, understanding, and accepting this fact.”

I would love to see some flamboyantly gay person show up at the draft and announce his presence by saying, “Hel-LO, beggars can’t be choosers.”

Aaah. A huge bastion of democracy and tolerance…not.

Lol tolerance? The founding fathers were not even considering blacks or even whites with no property when they said all men are created equal because to them a man was someone who owned property and could therfore vote. Anyone else simply didnt matter. So no, make no mistake, this country was not made to be tolerant of anything other than a persons view of religion. And isnt that funny since now we are not tolerant of people with different religions. The left keeps preaching about desegregation and equal opertunity but the laws they pass guarantee that it we still are segregated in mind if not in fact.
So as to gays i never understood why this country hates them so much. They are just people. They arent going to hurt anyone. I am not one of them but i would never even think of telling someone who they can and cant love. Talk about sheer stupidity.

I know that for me, I see everyone as embodying uniqueness and I feel that there’s very little that cannot be resolved with dialogue. (I also know I need stronger reading glasses!)

I don’t even know where to begin…..I am glad I live in nyc where its easier for all types of people to be accepted but at the end of the day we are all subjected to the same goverment decisions.

This is not surprising, considering he became President through a “Didn’t Win, Didn’t Care” election…

I agree with golfwidow that essentially this is a non-issue formulated to keep people preoccupied with trivial matters. They should talk about changing the weather.

If I was in a war, I wouldn’t care if the guy in the fox hole next to me was gay, straight, or in between, as long as he could shoot his rifle and help keep me alive. In fact, if he was gay, and thought I was cute, I might have even a better chance of coming out of the fight in one piece.

It’s amazing that nowadays, some still consider homosexuals as different. I personally couldn’t care less. We are all different to a certain level anyway, background, culture, sexuality etc. Who cares…
Zhus last blog post..How To Bank in Canada (4/10)
July 26th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
The ban on gays and lesbians serving in the Defense force was lifted in Australia and Canada in 1992 and in 2000 for the UK.
It allows them to serve openly and the Defense Forces are also then obliged to respond officially to any cases of discrimination.
It has resulted in an influx of gay and lesbian service personnel in recent years in Australia which I would presume elsewhere where bans have been lifted.
At that time over here its critics included the Defense Chiefs who predicted the legislation would harm recruitment, have a detrimental effect on defense capabilities and introduce predatory behavior and so forth, none of which has happened.
Multinational task forces in Iraq and Afganhastan made up of those countries have prompted Defense chiefs to question the USA’s official policy of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,†and conclude just how far it is out of step it with everyone else.
For those minorities who serve or who are thinking of serving being accepted for who you are is very important.
Best wishes

Udge. The Mother Book was written almost 30 years ago.
It’s remarkable how far we’ve come, yet in many ways things
are still the same. That’s the insult and absurdity of it all.
