Hope springs eternal. Until you lose it.
You begin to feel disconnected.
Do you reconnect with hope
by embracing pain or denying it?
“To live without hope is to cease to live.”
Quotation from Fyodor Dostoevsky
“Hope is definitely not the same thing as optimism. It is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out.”
Quotation from Václav Havel, Disturbing the Peace
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tunes without the words
And never stops at all.
Poem by Emily Dickinson, Hope is the Thing with Feathers

I love the Emily Dickinson. And I think it’s about embracing it. And knowing there is a way through it.

And I think you reconnect with hope by embracing pain – and then learning to let it go.

What a beautiful, beautiful comic. I love it.
For me, reconnecting hope is definitely about embracing pain. I went through the most painful period in my life like that. I accepted the pain, and the path that I was sent on, although I did not know where I would lead. I just accepted it and walked on it. I don’t think it made the pain less painful, but it took the bitterness away. It took the feeling of no hope away.

I have found that denial almost never leads to anything good. Embracing pain is how I have to come to hold onto hope. You live with pain, come to terms with it, and then you start to hurt a little less as time goes on. Hope is believing that one day, you might not feel the pain anymore, and maybe even find some good to come out of it.

Dostoevsky is quite correct. Without hope life is not worth living. To go day after day knowing there is no point would be hell. I dont know if the oposite of hope is pain though. To me it seems emptiness.
Ooooh… That’s why so many homeless people have a shopping cart… A rather poetic explanation.

Great quotations and comments.
I am an optimist. I think we can be hopeful, notwithstanding whatever difficulties prevail, since I believe ultimately in the longer term in the spirit of mankind.
Best wishes

If hopes could be purchased! But they can, ten cents a can says the gentleman. Don’t believe him, bought hopes are illusions. If you have no hopes you are indeed hopeless if you understand what I mean…
