Shipwrecked: O Captain! My Captain!

China is on the verge of surpassing Germany as
the world’s third-largest economy. Meanwhile, the
United States is stuck on the sand because of
mismanagement by government and financial leaders.

China’s push praised and censured in Mauritius (International Herald Tribune)
Clinton could face uneasy return to Senate (International Herald Tribune)

“For what is happening is a huge shift of
economic gravity from West to East. Or,
if you take the extremely long view, a return
to global balance of 200 years ago, when
China and India between them accounted
for roughly half of the world’s economic activity.”

Quoted from Jonathan Gregson,
The Elephant and the Dragon (Global Finance)

It’s indeed how you say. Lovely use of this poem, absolutely brilliant!

If only the state of the US economy also looked and sounded as good as your comic.

Such a lovely barrage of eloquence as always. I could envy a talent to execute such a melody of words. Indeed I could.

But instead I shall just read and indulge myself with such intriguing word play that you do use.

He wrote great poetry didnt he ! . Given the oil price spike, some say it could hit $ 200 a barrel, Iraq and the bursting of the housing bubble these highly visible and continued painful outcomes may precipitate a change in behaviors and policies but only time will tell. The flip side to understandable anger directed towards markets for escalations into bubble like proportions for oil and current commodity prices( wheat, rice and other basics together with copper and iron ) is it may form a catalyst to engender that change( politically previously untenable ) into a final move more towards sustainability and energy savings . In that the way the ship that has been sailing far too close to the wind for so long may eventually charter a course into safer waters.
    best wishes

I’m looking for an island that still has coconuts. I’ll send you the usual semaphore signal if I spy one.

Iceland, is a nice island about the size of Kentucky, and was voted according to the Global Peace Index Rankings at Global Peace see

number one in the world. The Gulf Stream keeps the climate mild for an island near the Arctic Circle, so you may be able to figure it way a way to grow stuff in the furtile areas and elimnate the whaling operations.

Good punchline — wasn’t expecting it! Sums up a lot of countries actually… it isn’t much better in Europe.
