If I was D.B. Cooper… (Part 2: Skyjacker)

The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin was a popular
1970’s British sitcom in which the lead character
fakes his death by drowning, then misses his wife
and returns home under an assumed identity.

Vanishing is Easy if You Stay Out of Trouble (Times Online)

“Magic trick: to make people disappear, ask them to fulfill their promises.”

Cool! Is there anyone reading this who hasn’t imagined disappearing to create a new life? If you see me on a Fijian Island, don’t call me Gary…

  2. golfwidow Says:

I never thought about faking a suicide off the Golden Gate. That’s kind of intriguing.

  3. Eidur Says:

    I agree with golfwidow, intriguing!

Agree with Gary —–the excellent post and interesting story also reminds about another story about Sam Bass, who looked liked opera star Ezio Pinza when South Pacific was all the rage , so whenever he went he was recognized as Pinza , its drove him mad as everyone would say …….Oh Ezio ….to which he would reply irritably …..Sam Bass is the name! , so he sought annonminity in Fiji.

To his relief he wasn’t recognized over there until one night a lovely lady knocked on his door one evening and said –Oh Ezio —-Sam started to say SAM (then recognizing this lovely lady) then burst into a line from that famous song from South Pacific, Sam enchanted evening.

He subsequently went missing, but this story is uncorroborated, maybe he took on anther identity, (nobody knows)… by simply changing his name by deed poll, ( don’t even call me Sam !) and growing a beard.

    Best wishes

How does one jump off the Golden Gate Bridge and not arrive in the water - at terminal velocity?

  6. Ras Says:

What is well hidden is right before our eyes.

  7. Bettina Says:

I imagine it a horrible feeling having to hide and live in constant fear of being discovered- that’s the kind of bad dream for me that I’m always so happy to wake up from. I can’t imagine that any amount of money would be worth doing that for. Plus, I really like my life and really don’t want another one.

Wow! That is an amazing quotation! I love it!!!!!

The flower on her hair looks AMAZING!!
Tahnks for the lovely comment, and I am glad to see that you’re a “flower girl” too.
    Nice weekend:))))

  10. MICHAEL MANNING Says:

There was a non-fiction book out called “Exit the Rainmaker” where a successful guy wanted out of the “rat race”, so he disappeared. Steve McQueen mentioned to Eli Wallach on the set of his final film that this was what he wanted to do–fire everyone who works for him and retreat with his wife, horses, cars and motorbikes to Idaho. I’d rather date Kate Hudson! :D

“I didn’t get where I am today” by ignoring Encore Seraphine. Great. Super.
