Mortal War
The mind and the heart should
share the same, but that they
don’t is a constant shame…
“The mind is not the heart.
I may yet live, as I know others live,
To wish in vain to let go with the mind
Of cares, at night, to sleep; but nothing tells me
That I need learn to let go with the heart.”
Poem by Robert Frost, Wild Grapes

1. Thanks for your comment on my textblog.
2. I interpret your Shakespeare’s comics as follows: a girl (you) in a postmodern environment overloaded with irrelevant information ( a school library?) - the connection with the poem’s content seems to be nowhere.
3. I looked up a Dutch translation of the sonnet (my English is too poor for this champion of the English language) and understood its meaning.
4. I don’t agree with the division Shakespeare makes between the eye’s impression and the heart’s perception of a loved person (And consequently I agree with Robert Frost if one repleces “mind” by “eye”. Ugly people become the most handsome persons in the eyes of the lover (the heart wins!) and when the heart isn’t interested in somebody’s beautiful appearance then the eyes see only a body or puppet. I think S. blamed himself for paying attention to his friend’s beautiful appearance, while his heart told him that his love for his friend shouldn’t take appearance into consideration; maybe or probably that was the ethics of the Church at that time.
5. Sorry if I over-analyzed your creative expression!!
Seraphine, you become a mystery more and more
