Nothing is Self-Evident
I make myself cry more than anyone else does.
“But I would cry,
rooted into the wall that
was once my mother,
if I could remember how
and if I had the tears.”
from Anne Sexton’s “Self in 1958.â€

I think I do that too. Furthermore, because I know I’m allowing my mind to boss myself into low expectations and preparation for disappointment, I call it being a devil’s advocate to myself … which is sort of fulfilling the job requirement of the demon bit.

That is a gift. One that my oh-so-proper English and Scottish background doesn’t easily encourage. I probably dress my demons up in tweed and have tea with them, hoping they won’t really introduce themselves.
You’re very interesting.
