Video surveillance is justified as a means to prevent and prosecute crimes,
to aid in the twin wars against drugs and terrorism, and to control traffic.
People should have a right to know if they are being monitored, why,
where the storage device footage is being kept, and by whom.

You are so right, Seraphine, one cannot even fly from our country to the States without handing in your CV to the American government, and in the same street where I shot the red mushrooms they saw me shooting them by a camera built-in in a tree, see my posting for October 8.
I always wave at the surveillance camera if I see it. It’s my way of saying, “I know you’re watching me and you won’t make me forget it.”
I’m also beginning to be vaguely troubled by everyone’s insistence that I present ID for everything. While I understand it’s a security measure, it also feels a bit like the German government who insisted that one present one’s papers and arresting anyone who wasn’t completely in order.

Apparently, in an average day in London, a free citizen is captured by 2,000 cameras.
Iris scans are now becoming common in the corporate world and may come to borders near us soon. Someday we will be revolutionaries if we simply avoid being recorded, filmed, followed by data and compliant. Hey, maybe it’s today!
